The fourth and final seminar of RMIT’s wonderful X Marks the Spot seminar series, 'Navigatin' Yer Expedition: Music Touring and Event Management' will be looking to create a discussion on touring and events management within the music industry. With help from industry professionals ranging from sectors within events/touring in music we’ll hope to explore the ins and outs of their professions, how they achieve what they have by reflecting on previous works and how to. These industry professionals include, Jerry Poon founder of The Operatives, an event booker named Shelley Liu from Vita Sounds and Valve Artists as well as the dynamic duo of Laura Christoforidis and Jamie Bennet, the founders of Crown Ruler and creators/organisers of Freedom Time Festival. Our seminar will be lead and moderated by the lovely Laura Imbruglia who works at Music Victoria as well as a musician from Melbourne, who also touches on the topics brought up in the seminar in the perspective of being a musician herself, as well as the topic of budgets and grant applications.

In our seminar we’re aiming to not only discuss the elements in creating and managing your own event and tour, but also delving into the importance of booking, both for an artist and a venue. With topics like these being discussed, we are looking to highlight and understand the essential fundamentals and detailing involved with all three topics. We’ll be asking questions and touching on topics such as budgeting, stress management, the first steps in creating an event, choice of venue, equal gender representation, adapting to new technologies (i.e. social media advantages) and how to make your event a safe environment for your audience.
Finalising the discussion, the panel floor will be open to the audience to ask any burning questions they have for any specific/all of our guest speakers and their grand knowledge of the industry. These seminars will aim to cater for primarily an audience of young aspiring students who wish to enter the music industry as a career.
